BREAKING: Lifelabs privacy breach could impact as many as 15 million Canadians
15 million Canadians are potential victims of a cyber attack against Lifelabs, with most in BC and Ontario.
The lab-testing company says it reported the attack November 1st, and government agencies in the two provinces are investigating.
It says cyber criminals hacked into their systems, swiped data, and demanded a ransom, which the company paid to secure data that included 85,000 test results from people in Ontario.
The affected systems contained the name, address, email, customer login, passwords, health card numbers, and lab tests of patients.
BC Information and Privacy Commissioner Michael McEvoy calls the breach "devastating" for those affected.
Lifelabs is apologizing to its customers.

Pattison company bows out of Canfor bid
A company owned by BC billionaire Jim Pattison is bowing out of a bid to buy Canfor Corporation and take the lumber producer private.
Pattison's Great Pacific Capital Corp. had offered 16-dollars per share for most of the remaining 49 per cent of Canfor shares the company doesn't already own.
But the roughly one-billion dollar offer failed to win over Canfor's minority shareholders -- with one company that holds a 4.8 per cent stake in Canfor complaining the offer was too low.
Canfor board members had recommend acceptance of the Pattison proposal, calling it ``compelling'' value.
