Should windowless bedrooms be allowed in Vancouver? 

Should small windowless rooms be acceptable as bedrooms in Vancouver? In an attempt to increase the number of family-friendly, multi-bedroom rental apartments, the City of Vancouver is experimenting with allowing bedrooms without exterior windows in some new apartment buildings.

Joseph Jones blogs about the city’s housing policy on his website, Eye of Norquay, and he believes that this is a design change that the city of Vancouver should not explore. 

However, Adrian Crook resides in a 1,000 sq ft condo with his five children, and recently created an 32 sq ft ‘inboard bedroom’ for his oldest son, Oliver. The space has no window, but Adrian claims his son enjoys having his own space.

Former fighter takes on Surrey’s proposed pro-MMA ban 

Surrey is looking to ban professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fights from city limits. Yesterday, CKNW Contributor Claire Allen spoke with Surrey city councilor Jack Hundial about what lead to council proposing a ban on professional MMA events in the city. 

Kajan Johnson is a former UFC fighter, and he now runs a gym in Burnaby. He joins us now to discuss Surrey’s ban on professional MMA fights.

Harsh coronavirus measures in Seattle area could reach Canada if outbreak worsens

Health officials in the Washington state county where the coronavirus has killed nine people are asking at-risk residents to avoid public areas and large gatherings where possible, marking a harsher language from those looking to limit the spread of the disease. But one expert says those same measures could soon come to Canada if the outbreak continues north of the border — particularly if the cases here turn fatal.

Cannabis producer Canopy Growth shuts down 2 B.C. facilities, leaving hundreds out of work

Canopy Growth has closed large greenhouses in Delta and Aldergrove, B.C. The cannabis company says the closures have resulted in the elimination of approximately 500 positions. In addition to the closures in B.C., the company says it no longer plans to open a third greenhouse in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
