Andrew Scheer set to reveal Consverative platform this afternoon
On Oct. 7, two weeks before Canada’s federal election, Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer said he would unveil a fully-costed party platform with “plenty of time” for Canadians to review it.
Scheer is expected to announce his party’s official platform today at Tsawwassen Springs. Why have the Conservative’s waited so long to announce their platform?
Guest: Keith Baldrey
Global BC Legislative Bureau Chief
Jagmeet Singh outlined six priorities for an NDP government, which include a national pharmacare and dental plan, a super-wealth tax and a price-cap on cellphone and internet fees, as well as tackling housing affordability and student debt.
Singh says his tax plan won't send investors fleeing the country. He says his plan will save businesses money on things like pharmacare
He was an hour late, but Conservative leader Andrew Scheer announced the Conservative party platform in Tsawwassen a few moments ago.
The platform titled: “Andrew Scheer’s Plan For You To Get Ahead” spans 103 pages and includes chapters on jobs, climate change, and a wide spanning section called “more help at home” that outlines the Conservatives’ plan for ethics, immigration, firearms, health, privacy, veterans and more.

Greater Vancouver Food Bank sees increase in senior use
Heading into the long weekend, many of us are thinking about turkey dinner. But not everyone is so fortunate as to enjoy a big meal this weekend. Sadly, many of those people are senior citizens. The food bank helps roughly 28-thousand people each week, 35% of whom were seniors during the month of August. Senior use of the food bank appears to be on the rise.
Cynthia Boulter is the Chief Development Officer for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, and she spoke about the increase of seniors using the food bank on the CKNW Jon McComb Show this morning…
Isobel Mackenzie is the BC Seniors Advocate, and she joins us to discuss the reasons behind why we are seeing more seniors using the food bank services.

Caren McSherry shares Thanksgiving recipes
Caren’s recipe: Gramma’s turkey stuffing
Gramma’s turkey stuffing is just that, stuffing with a Gramma’s touch. Comforting, tasty and above all simple, it is usually the focus of the festive meal. You can personalize it to suit your taste by adding roasted chestnuts, pecans, dried apricots/cranberries or sausage.
3 tablespoons butter
4 stalks celery finely diced
½ large yellow onion, finely diced
4 cups coarse dry breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
2 cups chicken stock
sea salt and ground pepper to taste
melt the butter in a 10 inch skillet, add the celery and onion, saute until soft but not brown. Transfer to a large bowl and add the breadcrumbs. Sprinkle in the poultry seasoning, toss well with your hands to evenly distribute the ingredients. Gradually pour in the chicken stock, al little at a time, just enough to moisten the breadcrumbs. you may not need all of the stock. Finish by seasoning with salt and pepper.
Line the cavity of the bird with cheesecloth, the stuff the bird. This makes it easier to remove the stuffing once the bird is cooked.
Makes 4 heaping cups
