Mayor Lisa Helps wants Victoria to withdraw its support for a downtown casino, given recent revelations about money laundering in the BC gaming industry and possible gang links to fentanyl trafficking. However, the provincial government is currently working to crack down on money laundering in casinos and has recently implemented rules to curb possible money laundering, such as ‘source of funds declarations’. Now that certain rules are in place, does Mayor Helps really feel that it is still necessary to block the development of the proposed casino?
