Background:

The Centre for Child Development:

For 65 years, The Centre for Child Development has been helping children with special needs reach their potential.

Our team of 150+ staff provide therapeutic services each year to more than 3,100 children.

We facilitate work with community leaders to solve the issues facing children and families. We do so with integrity, caring and compassion. We consistently challenge ourselves to improve upon best practices and lead our field. We know it takes unique solutions to meet unique needs, and the unique children we serve motivate us to do better every single day.

Sophie’s Place:

In 2012, The Centre for Child Development together with the Surrey RCMP, Ministry of Children & Family Development, the City of Surrey, Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General and our patron, Sophie Tweed-Simmons, collaborated to create Sophie’s Place—a child advocacy centre dedicated to children who are victims of physical, mental or sexual abuse.

Simi’s winner

A group of young teenagers who were on Grouse Mountain yesterday

There was another great save on Grouse Mountain yesterday... but this time it wasn't North Shore Rescue volunteers, but rather a group of five 13-and-14-year-olds.

The drama began when a young boy found himself dangling from a chair lift as a man, believed to be his father, desperately hung on with one arm while clutching a younger child with the other.

The boy was screaming as the chair lift moved up the hill, people watched in horror, and that's when the quick-thinking teenagers sprung into action, running to grab the out-of-bounds netting and padding to cushion the boy's fall.

They convinced him to let go, he fell, and they caught him.

The 8-year-old appeared to suffer no serious injuries and was taken to Lions Gate Hospital as a precaution.
