We’re continuing to learn more about that awful story in Burnaby: a 16-month-old has died, and police saying that their initial information suggests the child was left in a car for a number of hours.

As we know, there were a number of high-temperature records broken yesterday, because we’re experiencing something of a heat wave across BC at the moment.

Burnaby RCMP will have an update at 12:30pm and we’ll bring you that live, later this hour on the Simi Sara Show.

Police are reminding parents of the dangers associated with leaving your children in vehicles, in this hot weather. And they’re saying parents need to be vigilant when travelling with their children - they say you should double-check the backseat of your car to make sure it’s clear before you walk away.

More hot weather in the days to come across the Lower Mainland and in Kamloops. Mark Madryga tells us more.

The hot spell is pretty noticeable this week but there’s been a lot of dry weather these past few months. And after two record-breaking wildfire seasons, firefighters are hoping for rain to try and mitigate against the threat of more wildfires this year.

Just before we came on air, I spoke with the information officer for the BC Wildfire Service, Kevin Skrepnek.
