The newborns are automatically granted Canadian citizenship, and the practice has become known as ‘birth tourism’. Now, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie is asking the federal government to change immigration laws to stop what is perceived to be a ‘loophole’ to Canadian citizenship.
