Bill Peters is out as head coach of the Calgary Flames. He has been under investigation by the Flames and the NHL since allegations surfaced earlier this week that he used a racial slur against a former player 10 years ago. General manager Brad Treliving announced Peters' resignation today at a news conference in Calgary.

Treliving said that he then met with his communications team and they constructed an action plan about how they would move forward with the allegation that Peters had used a racial slur against former player Akim Aliu. Treliving said that the team planned to conduct a thorough review of the allegation of the incident.

Treliving then went on to detail what happened in the following days after the Flames had gathered information from their investigation. It was then that Treliving said that Bill Peters had sent him his resignation letter this morning…
