On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to do right by our kids, dang it! We watched the 2006 film from Gabriele Muccino, The Pursuit of Happyness.
It’s hard enough just to get through life when you’ve only got yourself to deal with. Throw in a young child and a struggling personal business and you’ve got the makings of a personal catastrophe.
That’s the reality Chris Gardner found himself dealing with after his partner left him. He had a young son, a mountain of nearly useless bone density scanners, and no confidence that there would be a roof over his family’s head on any given day.
That kind of desperate situation is enough to light a fire under anyone’s butt. Seeing the tragic future that awaited his son if he didn’t fix his life, he endeavors, with everything he has, to turn it all around.
This is a touching film, made all the more affecting by the fact that it really happened (save for the usual film adjustments and exaggerations). Enjoy the story and this episode!
