We’ve got one question for you… Are you ready for part three, a.k.a. “the middle part,” of the mini-series where we share and discuss our current top five favorite movies with you and each other? We hope you’re ready for it, because it’s here and we’re doing it! This time we’re diving headfirst into, you guessed it, another pair of our favorite movies.

Coming up first is another one of Sean’s favorites, 2013’s Her, directed by the always brilliant Spike Jonze. If you’ve been looking for a gorgeous, unique, and heartfelt film about a man falling in love with an operating system, then this one is for you! Okay, we get it, that sounds like a strange sort of movie. The thing is, it is a little weird, but the incredible quality about Her is the way it makes the idea of a man falling in love with a computer seem totally normal. This is a gorgeous looking film, too. No wonder that it was shot by one of Sean’s favorite cinematographers, Hoyte van Hoytema.

We follow up Her with one of Steven’s (and coincidentally, Sean’s) absolute favorites, Garden State. This one was made in 2004 and was written, directed, and stars Zach Braff, as well as starring Natalie Portman. We’ve found that it still holds up very well and makes us feel all the feels. Really, all of those feels! Coming just out of high school, this one was a very formative film for us, both as people and as film lovers. The film also centers around a budding relationship, this time between two real people. They’ve got baggage, they go on adventures, and they scream from construction equipment next to a tugboat at the top of a quarry in the rain. It’s got everything!

We love both of these films and are thrilled to share this watching experience with you. Both Her and Garden State hold a special place in both of our histories and hearts. We can’t wait to hear from you what you think of these films, too.

Get into it and tune in again for part 4!
