Money Talks – a series of interviews with Liam Halligan, Economics and Business Editor of GB News.
In this episode, Liam talks to Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Secretary of State of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Kwarteng was born in London to Ghanaian parents and entered the House of Commons as Tory MP for Spelthorne in 2010. Before politics, he gained a PhD in history from Cambridge and was then an investment banker.
Since joining the Business Department as a minister in 2019, Kwarteng has taken a close interest in energy policy. In this wide-ranging interview, he criticises retailers who keep petrol and diesel prices high even as the price of oil falls, refers to fracking as “hugely controversial” and, in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, says successive British governments “haven’t had a long-term energy plan” .
