Tracy Kautzmann has been providing career coaching and training for individuals relocating countries for over twenty years. Joining IMPACT Group – which provides relocation assistance and coaching to empower employees operating in 65 countries – in 2005, Tracy has expertise in job search strategies, branding and leadership coaching and managing transitions. Considering herself a global nomad, Tracy herself has lived in seven countries and relocated seventeen times.

In this discussion, Tracy draws on her expertise to reveal the ins and outs of career building and settling as an expat spouse. Awareness of unconscious biases, different hierarchical structures and, above all, attitude and optimism, all ensure the success of assignments. Tracy reflects on her rewarding work of helping some spouses build ‘suitcase careers’ – flexible, adaptable work that appeals to the client’s passions. From setting up an Indian takeout stand in Basel to creating a suitcase career of a yoga instructor in Eastern Europe, Tracy’s experiences and work is a critical part of the ‘mobility army’ that moves someone from one country to another.
