Pastor Manoj - Red Light District Update

For this Valentine special, Pastor Manoj shares with us the special project this February for the women and their children of the Red Light District of Mumbai.

The red light district was usually very crowded and the women there would have plenty of business. But when the pandemic began to grow, their business dropped down to absolutely nothing, leaving them unable to provide for themselves and their families. More than 200 women and their families were struggling. The government tried to help by providing ration to the people under the poverty line everywhere but most of the women in the red light district did not have any legal documents which would entitle them to receive government help. Because of this, they are not able to receive anything.


The women in the red light district knew about their Hope Center that had a program running right there in the red light district so they began receiving calls from these desperate women and requesting for help. They started to pray for them, asking guidance on how they may be able to distribute food to the red light district. They were able to prepare the packets for the women but then Priya went into surgery and Pastor Manoj had to prioritize his wife. After her surgery, Priya asked him why he hadn't distributed the packets and told him to distribute it since she was well now, encouraging and challenging him.


They had a lot of challenges when they started distributing but God guided them. Now, they distribute house to house, handing four packets personally to them and they could see the joy on their faces. These women could not leave the district because they had bills to pay, they had obligations to their children, to their families, but Pastor Manoj believes the day will come when the city is ready and they will receive hundreds of women who are willing to come out of these operations to live a respectful life. They will be able to embrace them and their children in the city of Hope. But until then, what Pastor Manoj sees is these women really need support, they need church, they need everyone to love them, to be around them, to assist them in their difficult times. They continue to minister these women spiritually while, at the same time, helping them practically.
