In this first ever episode, I’m speaking to Dr Jennifer Olt, who received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Sheffield, where she focused her research on signal detection and transmission in the ear.

In the podcast we covered that research, how Dr Olt tried to understand how hearing works in zebrafish and how that helped us understand hearing loss a bit better.

We also spoke about her country of birth: Germany. Dr Olt was born in East Germany, or the German Democratic Republic. She was very young when Germany reunified but she shared some stories about what life was like for her family in East Germany before the wall came down.
