2X GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist Marcus Strickland joins Angelika Beener to discuss Coltrane's landmark 1961 recording, My Favorite Things. A forward-thinking, paradigm-shifting tour de force, My Favorite Things was released in March of 1961 and marks some of Coltrane's earliest work with McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones. Here, Marcus and Angelika get into the tunes as well as Coltrane's arrangements; the significance of the soprano saxophone at this time; and why Strickland thinks the concept of "the producer" needs to be expanded.
