Welcome to season 3! On this episode of MICRO BREAK (Episode 84), following on the heels of episode 83, guest spotlight with Leo Allen, I cover the rise and fall of Boston, Massachusetts' Radio Shack retail electronics stores.
The company was started as in 1921 by two brothers, Theodore and Milton Deutschmann, who wanted to provide equipment for the then-nascent field of amateur radio (also known as ham radio). The brothers opened a one-store retail and mail-order operation in the heart of downtown Boston at 46 Brattle Street.
