Righto boys, listen up.

Today we're going to talk about really manly shit. Like footy, and pulling birds and the fact that you should be transparent with those closest to you if you're struggling. Also, schooners.

That's right, today Age & Mitch are tackling the rather complex concept of masculinity. Where did it come from? What is it? And what does it mean for a couple of proud (not very masc4masc) homos? Spoiler, probably much more than you realise.

Masculinity, and in particular toxic masculinity, is something that is beaten into young Australian boys from a very young age. Unfortunately, (unless you're James Bond) it's almost impossible for anyone - gay, straight or otherwise - to live up to the expectation of what it means to be the perfect man. The boys discuss their own relationship with their masculinity and of course, femininity and how they have changed over time. Discussion leads in some interesting directions when they realise that in this case, maybe The Straights actually have it tougher? And maybe none of it even matters anymore anyway.
