Patients under 21 who present with fever, lab evidence of inflammation, multisystem involvement, and recent or current SARS-CoV-2 infection fall under the case definition for multisystem inflammatory syndrome. They commonly present with persistent fever and gastrointestinal symptoms and concerningly, shock. Why are we seeing disproportionate rates in children of racial and ethnic minorities?
