This week on #MaxOutTime #EducationReboot: 2022 Ohio State Teacher of the Year Kurt Russell discusses why representation in the classroom and curriculum matters.

Ohio’s first Black male teacher of the year is a history instructor at Oberlin High School who emphasizes cultural relevance and diversity of all kinds. Mr. Russell teaches African American Studies and an innovative course called race, gender and oppression because he believes everyone deserves to see themselves in the classroom.

The award-winner also serves as a lead teacher and advisor for the Black Student Union, student council and junior class. Please follow Mr. Russell on social media @kurtsenior_.
