We all know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man. But what about the Marvel films and TV movies that came before the MCU and that aren't technically a part of it?

In this podcast, we take a look, sometimes with excitement, sometimes with dread, at the films and TV movies that are part of what we have dubbed the "MCO" or "Marvel Cinematic Origins".

July 11, 2017 00:00 - 54 minutes - 74.5 MB

We made it to the end of our journey. Join us one last time as we take a look at the first superhero family in their various film iterations. There's the one that was never released, the one with Jessica Alba, the one where Jessica Alba looks weird and the one that looks like it hates fun just as much as DC does. Thanks for listening!

Episode 9- Swamp Water & Hell Fire

May 31, 2017 00:00 - 50 minutes - 68.7 MB

In the penultimate episode, we dive into Marvel's supernatural/horror offerings. Were you aware that they made a Man-Thing film? Yes, really! We also discuss both Ghost Rider movies and debate about just how much Nicolas Cage is too much.

Episode 8- SMASH

May 09, 2017 00:00 - 49 minutes - 68 MB

We journey alongside Bill Bixby as he hitchhikes across America and into our hearts in The Incredible Hulk TV show and movies. We also begrudgingly cover the 2003 Hulk movie that everyone is trying to forget, all in an effort to understand Bruce Banner and the big green monster that he becomes.

Episode 7- I Double Dare You

March 14, 2017 00:00 - 56 minutes - 25.9 MB

We dive into the dark world of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen by exploring the early influences of the Netflix show, compare the theatrical and director's cut of Ben Affleck's Daredevil and talk about the problem that is Elektra.

Episode 6- S is for Spider-Man & SO Much Angst

January 20, 2017 00:00 - 1 hour - 35.1 MB

We cover the Spidey films before he became a part of the MCU, including the made-for-TV movie released in 1977. Join us as we discuss all four versions of Peter Parker, two Harry Osborns, three Aunt Mays and two Uncle Bens dying but not before finding ways of reiterating the phrase, “With great power, comes great responsibility”.

Episode 5- Teenage Mutants

November 23, 2016 00:00 - 57 minutes - 26.2 MB

We've made it to the halfway point of our Marvel Cinematic Origins podcast! While technically, the X-Men aren't officially part of the MCU, in this episode, we discuss how the first set of films launched the superhero genre plus we talk about the made-for-TV movie you probably didn't know existed. Films covered: Generation X (1996), X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Episode 4- Vampires, oh my!

October 05, 2016 00:00 - 41 minutes - 32.6 MB

Our fourth episode revisits the Blade trilogy: Blade (1998), Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004). Wesley Snipes killing vamps, what more can you ask for?! If it weren't for Blade, we probably wouldn't have any of the superhero movies of today.

Episode 3- A doctor, a duck and a spy all walk into a bar…

September 04, 2016 00:00 - 1 hour - 49.7 MB

Time for our third episode of Marvel Cinematic Origins and things get weird. We decided to review these three films together since they were super random and reflective of the times when they were released. Get ready for Dr. Strange (1978), Howard the Duck (1986) & Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1998)!

Episode 2- The Punishment

August 01, 2016 00:00 - 1 hour - 52.9 MB

In our 2nd episode of Marvel Cinematic Origins, we take a look at all the different versions of the ultimate antihero: The Punisher. There are three incarnations prior to the Netflix series, will any of them come close to the newest MCU Punisher? Find out here in the MCO as we review Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson as they each take turn kicking ass and taking names.

Episode 1- Marvel's Boy Scout

July 02, 2016 00:00 - 57 minutes - 46.5 MB

Welcome to Marvel Cinematic Origins! A brand new podcast all about the Marvel films and TV movies that came before the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). It just makes sense to start with The First Avenger. In our debut episode, we discuss the 1944 serial film that had nothing to do with Steve Rogers, the two TV movies that came out in 1979 and what could possibly be one of the worst superhero movies out there, the 1990 Cap film.
