"The Character of God: Knowing the God who is Gracious"

Introduction: Dwelling on Gods character.

Exodus 34:5-7
Then the Lord came down in a cloud and stood there with him; and he called out his own name, Yahweh. The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord!

The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.

But I do not excuse the guilty.

I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”

1) Story of Grace
- God rescues from slavery
- God and the people at mount Sini
- God is faithful to an unfaithful people

2) God is gracious.
- חֵן (ḥēn) favor, grace, mercy or delight
- χάρις (charis). Gracious gift

3) Receiving and living with Grace
- Becoming people of Grace
- Jesus is Gods grace revealed

John1:16-18
From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Communion:

1 Corinthians 11:23-26
On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
