Carolina In the Pines

June 09, 2013 16:33 - 2.69 MB

This is a studio demo recording that we did several years ago (2008?). After a period of several years of not playing we have gotten back together. I was digging around and found this. Kind of forgot we did a few tunes in the studio. The band name is 36 Degrees North (the latitude we live on...). I play mandolin in this group. Hope you enjoy it. Your Memory

May 27, 2013 15:12 - 7.47 MB

This is a recording I made of the Bluegrass Gentlemen performing an original song written by Jackie Wooten called "Your Memory". Jeff Barnett on Guitar, Jackie Wooten on Bass, David Church on Banjo and Brian Baker on Mandolin. Jackie and David are old school Bluegrass pickers who played with the Skyline Bluegrass Express Band on the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe.

Steam Powered Aeroplane

April 29, 2013 00:51 - 1.59 MB

This is my attempt at a favorite John Hartford tune. Since I can't sing worth a darn I did it as an instrumental (which is fairly common). I play mandolin and resonator guitar on the recording. The Band in A Box RealTracks band helped me out on guitar rhythm and bass. I have a new recording interface and software and I am still learning so the recording quality is so-so. Hope y'all enjoy my attempt at it.

Little Maggie

February 24, 2013 20:35 - 2.21 MB

As many of you know, Kelly Lancaster passed away last week. I had the privilege of doing some recording with Kelly. This is one of my favorites. It's a song off a demo we shopped around for gigging purposes. Bobby Nichols on guitar, me on bass and Kelly on mandolin. I thought some of y'all would get a kick out of Kellys break. It is Kelly at his best in my view. Absolutely awesome. I distinctly remember looking at Bobby when Kelly did this track and we couldn't wipe the grin off our faces!

National Anthem

November 24, 2011 16:05 - 1.38 MB

This is the National Anthem that was played at my Air Force Retirement. I was picking the melody of it. I had a friend strumming Taylor Swift's version of the National Anthem on guitar and another friend giving the traditional drum for it.

William Smith Monroe

August 14, 2011 10:32 - 9.53 MB

I wrote this tribute to Bill Monroe after visiting the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Festival in Rosine, KY in 2005, and I have just released it in the USA on New Cuts Of Bluegrass Volume 3, and to Radio Stations on Air Play Direct. It is getting really good airplay on US Radio.

Fisher's Hornpipe

July 19, 2011 03:09 - 2.04 MB

I thought I would post a little bit of "Fisher's Hornpipe" played on my Aleyas mandolin. I played the guitar and mando, so please ignore the guitar playing. :)

St. Anne's Reel

December 30, 2010 19:11 - 3.55 MB

I decided to tinker around with some multitracking a while back. I have always liked St. Anne's Reel and decided to record it. I played the melody on Resonator Guitar and Mandolin and play some guitar rythym for it. I played the tune a little more slowly and deliberately than it is usually played. It changes the feel of the tune a bit. I played a 1981 Carlson/Flatiron mandolin A5-2 on this recording. Hope you enjoy it.
