Jamaican rum is known for its high esters - those are the compounds that give it the heady aromas it has and makes it taste all banana-ey, pineapple-y and fruity.  Some also call it funk, but our guest calls it magic.
I’m Susan Schwartz, your drinking companion, and this is Lush Life Podcast, every week we are inspired to live life one cocktail at a time by the best in the industry.
Christelle Harris is well versed in esters, muck and funk as she is the granddaughter of the owner of Hampden Estate - one of the oldest continuously running distilleries in Jamaica. She was in London for UK Rumfest and sat down with me to explain exactly why Hampden Estate Rum has such a fantacial fanbase.
