It's a late-night edition of the Locked On Penguins podcast, but there was A LOT to get to for this one. Hunter starts the show by diving into the Kris Letang extension and how it looks like both sides got what they wanted. He looks at how the Penguins got some big-time cap savings with it, which SHOULD make it easier to sign Evgeni Malkin. He also looks at how term should be a non-issue here since the team won't be that good when the last couple of years of that contract are happening. After he discusses Letang, he touches on Owen Pickering and how the Penguins made a really good pick with this first-rounder. He also addresses the "top down" model and why fans shouldn't be assessing the pick just based on that. Finally, Hunter gives the latest on the Malkin contract talks and why there's no reason for this to not get done, plus what this could mean for Rickard Rakell's future.
