Let's go through the 2023 MLB Draft and declare the winners and losers for each division, starting with the American League.

In the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays did a great job of maximizing value for where they selected, while the New York Yankees may have erred in who they selected where and the risk-to-return calculus for some of their earlier picks

In the AL Central, the Chicago White Sox (surprisingly) did a really good job of balancing floors and ceilings, especially with some of the early Day 2 picks. The Kansas City Royals took on extra risk when they didn't really need to, starting with making a prep catcher a Top Ten pick when Kyle Teel of Virginia was available.

In the AL West, the Seattle Mariners knocked it out of the park with their three 1st round selections, and chased upside after those three guys while assuming a bit more risk, as a contender with a good farm system has the ability to do. The Houston Astros, with new GM Dana Brown, had a...weird draft? Just a lot of reaching for players that either went too early or had comparable value in later selections.
