The LSU Tigers have found their new defensive coordinator; it was announced Friday evening that Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker will leave for Baton Rouge to assume the same role under Brian Kelly. Baker took over a Missouri defense that ranked 113th in the nation. Under two years of Baker's oversight, Missouri had a 25th ranked defense with the 10th most sacks of any other defense in college football. Also, Baker is not new to Baton Rouge. He served as the linebackers coach for the Bayou Bengals in the 2021 season and facilitated the breakout performances of LBs Damone Clark and BJ Ojulari.

LSU signed Baker to a three-year, $2.2 million contract and will pay his $900,000 buyout from Missouri, making him the highest paid defensive coach in college football. Did LSU possibly overpay for a defensive coordinator that doesn't have the same accolades or resumes as other assistants in college football? While Baker feels like the right hire, was it at the right price?
