I hate play in games in the NCAA Tournament, but I especially hate teams with automatic bids have to play in them. Texas Southern and Howard have to play in them in the 2022 tournament. What's the point of saying automatic if it isn't really automatic? There's a chance you won't make it. "Automatic" & "play in" are direct contradictions.
Howard was absolutely dominant in the women's MEAC tournament. In each game, they were able to score in different ways. One game it was Destiny Howell; in the next, it was Iyanna Warren. One sign of domination was their limited time trailing in each game. They never trailed more than 4 minutes total in a game.
Jackson State WBB dominated the SWAC all season long. That domination didn't stop in the tournament. They won the championship and punched their ticket into the big dance as the 14 seed. That's their highest seeding in school history. Coach Reed thought they'd be higher and has the right mindset to pull off the upset.
