Ameshya Williams-Holliday Ends HBCU to WNBA Drought, Jackson State OC Already Getting High Praise

Ameshya Williams-Holliday was just drafted by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Draft. She broke the 20 year drought of HBCU players getting drafted to the league. Williams-Holliday is only the 6th ever HBCU player to be drafted. Her success has inspired JSU to hold their own Pro Day to showcase their players in efforts to not make this another long gap. 

Jackson State’s new offensive coordinator Brett Bartalone is already receiving high praise from Shadeur Sanders. Helping Sanders’ development should be priority number one for Bartalone. South Carolina State just lost their head coach Tony Madlock to Alabama State. Their leading scorer TJ Madlock entered the transfer portal and will likely be at Alabama State as well. Prior to those two arriving at the school, the program was in a real dark place for years. Coach’s departure puts the program in real danger of sinking back to that place. TJ Madlock was the leading scorer while also leading or being top 5 in rebounds and 3 point percentage. The impact of the two leaving will be substantial.
