That might have been the wildest game in franchise history. This game appeared to be over multiple times, only for the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets to stage impossible comebacks. In the end, the Giants prevailed in the bottom of the 9th after Joc Pederson tied the game with a two-out single and Brandon Crawford won it with a walk-off knock.

Pederson hit three home runs in the game and drove in eight runs. It was one of the best individual offensive performances in baseball history, especially from a win probability added perspective. Prior to the game, he got lost in conversation with Barry Bonds. Pederson says he noticed that it was almost game time and had to rush to put on his jersey and get ready. He was so locked into what Bonds was saying, and then he went out and had an all-time performance.

But the game really never should've been within the Mets' grasp. Tyler Rogers coughed up seven runs on seven hits in the 8th inning, and Camilo Doval allowed two additional hits in the inning. It was an unacceptable slip, and one that has become all too familiar for Giants pitchers this season. Their team ERA is among the worst in the game, which is unacceptable given the talent they have as a staff. Their peripherals remain strong, suggesting better results should come. However, the team defense has been flat-out bad, which has led to worse results for the pitchers. They need to tighten that up in a major way.
