When the news hit that Avs #1 prospect Bowen Byram was going to be in the lineup, fans were as excited as if this were a playoff game. Good thing it wasn't because the series would be tied at 1 thanks to a less than stellar effort by the Avalanche, letting the Kings walk away with their first win of the season even after Colorado got out to a 2-0 lead after the first.
