Even though the Washington Capitals have a playoff spot clinched, their seeding is not. The Colorado Avalanche are playing for franchise records. Both had reason to continue to put their best effort out on the ice and both did just that. In the end, the Washington Capitals skated to a great game plan to keep the chances of the Avalanche limited while taking advantage of bad Avalanche mistakes to take a 3-2 win in Ball Arena.
Sure the officials had a bad night, and sure the Avalanche held out some key players to rest up prior to the playoff run. But excuses cannot be made, and we won't do that here.
