Greetings and Welcome to Episode 12 of the Living Your Best Life in Afrika podcast.

I hope we all had a prosperous and active ‘Living Your Best Life’ week.

This week I’m answering a question that came in from one of our listeners to the podcast – and the question is … "I have always wanted to travel to Afrika … but don’t know where to start.  Can you give some pointers?"

To give some context to my answers, I'll be using my own experiences of arranging my first real trip to Afrika.

I have a beautiful download that goes with this podcast. You can download it here

This weeks question, is such an important question, because I know when I was researching the start-up of this podcast, this was one of the key things that listeners wanted me to talk about.

As you know, I have been travelling to Afrika since 1995, but my first real trip, which I had to organise myself, happened in 2008 – on my first trip to Ghana.  Now… I chose Ghana because everything I had always read about Ghana, made me feel that Ghana was receptive to receiving Afrikan visitors from the west, who had western bellies and western needs – no matter how ‘right on Afrikan’ I felt!

Now, we might think this is something that comes as standard, but it isn’t.  There are Afrikan countries that are still very much controlled by their colonial masters and as such, those colonial masters do not want the local people to be inspired (or infected) by the zest for Afrikan self-determination – and therefore, they treat Afrikans from outside Afrika, really harshly – almost as if the aim is to dissuade you from visiting the country.

So … I chose Ghana because I knew it was a friendly country and I also knew that my lack of knowledge of Afrikan languages, would not matter as much, because English was spoken as a strong second language.

I also chose Ghana because there was a history of struggle against enslavement of Afrikans and I knew, therefore, that I would not need to hide my feelings when looking at some of the historical sites where Europeans held my Ancestors captive, waiting to sell them to their evil-minded friends and countries.

In this episode, I use my experience of travelling to Ghana to give you my top 5 most important things you need to consider when planning your first trip to Afrika.

Enjoy!

On a final, final note, lots of people have been asking about the Webinar and when it’s likely to be repeated.  Don’t worry … the webinar will be repeated later in the year and nearer the time I will put out an alert so you have time to book on for the ‘7 Passions’ Masterclass.

Don’t forget about the download that accompanies this episode You can download it using the links in these show notes … and as an extra treat, I have posted some beautiful Afrika sunset pictures on the LYBLIA Facebook page. … Enjoy.

Remember … if you love what you hear … leave me a review wherever you’re listening to the podcast.

Thanks for listening.
