Katherine is an advocate and educator for the deaf and hard of hearing. Her recent book is “Smart Hearing: Strategies, Skills, and Resources for Living Better with Hearing Loss” (October 2018).  

She is also the author of “Shouting Won’t Help,”(2013), a memoir of losing her hearing in midlife and how it affected her, and of “Living Better with Hearing Loss” (2015).  Katherine’s books are available at Amazon.com or at your favorite independent bookstore.

Her 40-year career in journalism began at The New Yorker and concluded with 22 years at The New York Times. She traveled the world as a free-lance magazine writer as well.

Katherine is a frequent speaker on hearing loss issues and speaks to both professional and hearing loss groups. She can be reached at [email protected].

She is Vice President of the New York City Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America and was until recently a member of the National Board of Trustees of HLAA.
