In this re-broadcast of IRT's live webinar on Earth Day, 2021 Jeffrey and his panel, Kiran Krishnan, Jim Thomas, Michelle Perro, MD and Dr. Michael Antoniou, PhD focus on why genetically engineered microbes pose an unprecedented risk. Our expert panel will discuss the issues raised in the short film, Don’t Let the Gene Out of the Bottle.

The release of genetically engineered (GE) microbes into the environment (whether deliberate or not) can elicit long-term, large-scale, and potentially irreversible changes to the environment, communities, and ecosystems. The current regulatory framework is wholly inadequate and outdated, lagging far behind the technology and the threat it brings. In most countries, genetically engineered microbes can be released without meaningful government oversight.
