Black history in America is complicated. The recent events in America are disturbing, at the least. The riots and protests that the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Abery and Breonna Taylor have inspired are nothing new for African-Americans.

What might be new is the international coverage. Not because these types of protests haven't been covered, but because the deaths of George and Ahmaud were recorded and as a result, the anger, pain and disbelief crossover racial, economic, religious and gender lines on a global scale.

I hope peace has found all those who have lost their lives to violence, ignorance and hate. Those of us who remain will continue to attempt to amplify your voices and shine a spotlight on the empty spaces that were once filled by you.
