It’s a bold move whenever a film takes place far off into an unknown future because once the future becomes the present that film is once again  ripe for analysis and in many cases a takedown. We’re here today to talk about some films that we think have done a strong job in predicting future technology, a mixed job in predicting future (now-past) cultural events, and a flat out bad job (so far) in predicting our dystopian future.

Other topics this week include our thoughts on DC Comics’ upcoming FanDome virtual event and our favorite films of 1985, a year in which time travel ruled the box office!

Cold Open: 2020 NFL Regular Season - The biggest show on television is almost back and it’s going to be a very interesting season due to COVID-19. Let’s hear some non-existent pre-season thoughts from Team LBF. (00:00)

Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Corey, Doug, JP, and Murph… (12:42)

News: Topics include a preview of DC’s FanDome event on 8/22 and the upcoming Planes, Trains and Automobiles remake. (13:21 )

What We Watched: Highlights from the past week include Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mindhunter (Seasons 1-2), Project Power, The Old Guard, Magic Camp, and the series premiere of Lovecraft Country. (40:47)

Feature Presentation: The Future is Now - Predicting the future isn’t easy as directors as varied as Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, and James Cameron can attest over the course of their careers. Enjoy this semi-serious look back at what some of our finest (and most dubious) films got right and very wrong over the years in regards to what’s now mostly our past. (01:19:37)

Yearly Film Series: Our 1985 film selections include The Goonies, Teen Wolf, Clue, Commando, and Back to the Future. (01:57:09)

End Credits: Make sure to Like, Follow, and/or Subscribe to Live Breathe Film! (02:12:40)

Post-Credits: If you’ve made it all the way to the end, please enjoy Murph once again screwing up the intro to the show!  (02:13:52)
