What significance does a concept like truth acquire in a country where power has lain with the few at the expense of the many? Critic and University of Cape Town academic Hedley Twidle has recently published Experiments with Truth, where he explores the strong position of narrative non-fiction in South Africa.

In this lecture, Twidle will discuss the development of South African fiction, non-fiction and literary criticism since the fall of apartheid in 1994. It will be followed by questions from the audience, moderated by literary researcher Tonje Vold.
