Inspiring yourself and inspiring others are two challenging things to do. Inspiration, different then motivation lasts longer. Motivation is like taking a shower, you need to do it daily for it to work! Inspiration makes you search for greatness and doesn't let you quit.
So this past Monday, I saw a post from a friend on Facebook saying that he was 90 doing a 50-mile run, an ultramarathon. After seeing that, I told him sure I think I'll run with you. After all the motto of his company Elevate OCR is "embrace the suck".
Five days later, at 7:30 in the morning, we met at the beginning of what our course would be for the day. We had a two and a half mile loop that we would run in one direction, come back to the same spot then turn around and run it in the other direction to equal 5 miles. The goal is to do 10, 5-mile loops in 12 hours or less to equal 50 miles.
In shape but untrained for this distance, I had to hone my innate superpower of embracing the suck and being insanely headstrong. To make this more challenging I decided to run this event fasted, meaning I was going to not consume any calories during this. All I had were electrolytes and EnergyBITS chlorella and spirulina (use code lifestylelocker to unlock 20% off at energybits.com). The algae has 25 calories and is packed with nutrients (in this episode I said they have zero calories... I stand to be corrected- so you can count this as fasting or not).
It was an amazing journey... and yes I'm sore today. The morning was challenging walking around, but by midday Sunday I was helping around the house, and my wife and I worked on some outdoor projects.
I hope you enjoy this episode and that it inspires you to push yourself a little harder in life to be better!!!
