Cory Sterling is a lawyer, owner of Conscious Counsel law firm, author and yoga teacher. He joins Nathalie today from his new home in Brazil to discuss making law fun, helping people with yoga businesses avoid legal complications and the importance in building transparent relationships.

With his book, ‘The Yoga Law Book: Legal Essentials for Yoga Professionals,’ Cory wanted to help people in the yoga space have a greater awareness of the legalities of business. One of the main concepts he discusses in the book is the practice of shoshin, or having a beginner’s mind. At any moment you can stop and re-evaluate life and see things anew. You can choose to see things fresh, change perspectives and be present at any time.

This leads Cory to discuss relationships. In life and business, relationships are everything. By having strong, transparent relationships you are creating and opening lines of communication and building trust. This allows both sides to have aligned expectations.

Practicing what he has named heart-leading law, Cory tells us the origin of his philosophy and how he brought his message to a wider audience through speaking at Wanderlust in Hawaii. This led to opening his own practice and allowed him the privilege of being able to choose his clients.

To finish the episode, Cory and Nathalie talk about Conscious Counsel and Cory’s mission to make law a more fun and accessible medium. Try and be appreciative in the moment, be present and be conscious.
