I want to start with bigger is not always better. You know, I know in Texas, it's always, everything is big in Texas. So, you know, it's just very Texas, just saying. But in assisted living industry, bigger is not always better. If you are needing a higher level of care, a lot of medical attention, a smaller assisted living facility that preferably has a nurse that rounds or is owned by a nurse like mine is an advantage. ~ Ann Garcia- Owner ComForCare Assisted Living

Kim Hegwood and Ann Garcia will discuss:

Why Choosing a Small Assisted Living May Be Your Best Option

A few of the questions Kim will ask to include:

1. What is a small- assisted living facility and how do they differ from a larger facility or a nursing home?

2. When someone needs a lot of care is this the best option?

3. What care needs are you able to provide?

4. Does home health care and hospice also care for residents in your home?

5. Why is it important to have a nurse on call?

Bio:

Ann Garcia is a Registered Nurse. A wife, mother of 2 beautiful children, and an owner/administrator of a 40-bed Small (licensed) Assisted Living Facility in Houston TX. She is a proud immigrant that came to this beautiful country 13years ago.

Ann’s passion to care for others has been exemplary. Her childhood experience growing up in the Philippines and watching her mother care for her grandparents inspired Ann’s desire to serve the senior population. Ann started her career as a bedside nurse for 10 years working in a Critical Care Unit at a Level 1 trauma hospital at the Texas Medical Center. The knowledge and skills she gained were very beneficial when she eventually started her own Assisted Living Facility.

Ann strongly values her principles: honesty, dignity, and growth. She believes that whatever situation you’re in; you should always do the right thing.

Ann leads a team of 35 employees and has very little to no turnover of staff. Truly unheard of in this industry. Her father was a very successful businessman and taught Ann to “always listen if you want to be heard”. This is her key secret in retaining her staff which then results in happy and satisfied clients.
