Life by the Numbers

14 episodes - English - Latest episode: over 2 years ago - ★★★★★ - 3 ratings

A Podcast dedicated to a philosophy of life "by the numbers" in order to share and gain healthy perspective. No topic is off limits but conversations revolve around science, technology, leadership, career development, learning, and love. As a major science enthusiast who has benefited from the gracious free mentoring from amazing folks in my field, I would like to pay it forward and offer mentoring in return. I am a fellow traveler still as I am still in industry, but almost 15 years into my post baccalaureate career, I have some valuable information to share. The most important goal of this podcast is to help anyone who needs to feel supported, seen, or is still looking for "their tribe". My hope is to support women and minorities in STEM along with anyone who feels called to live intensely and and with intent. I share that intensity and want to cheer you on through your journey!

Ep 10: Mental Health and PTSD

June 06, 2021 22:00 - 32 minutes - 22.3 MB

A bit late for May and Mental Health Awareness month, but still timely for the get-back-to-normal vibe in the US, we discuss processing trauma and what that looks and feels like.  No one will work through their trauma at the same pace or experience it in the same way, but there are things that we can do to help ourselves and each other.  I am not a mental health professional, just a fellow traveler, so please do research, speak to a professional and do not take this as an all encompassing l...

Ep 9. Mask Off Dance Off?

May 25, 2021 02:00 - 40 minutes - 28.1 MB

In this episode we focus on the numbers in terms of the kids who are too young to be vaccinated and think about what that means for society.  I know we all want to celebrate "the end" of the pandemic, and there is cause for celebration in the US as cases continue to go down.  But how do we handle the competing interests of protecting the younger parts of our population with getting back to work? Wherever you are and however you are handling this all, you are doing exactly the right thing for...

Ep 7: The Aftermath and Working Parents

April 26, 2021 02:00 - 47 minutes - 32.4 MB

In this episode I open myself up to the fear that has been locked away in the back of my mind as we all have traveled through the past year...what will come of the stress for working parents as everything "normalizes".  I think we all feel like "normal" is never going to look the same, but I wonder how much will come back and how we will be able to do our jobs reasonably well with the health restrictions that will inevitably stay in place longer than most jobs will be considered fully remote...

Ep 6: Historical Ties to the Plague

April 19, 2021 01:00 - 58 minutes - 40.5 MB

I keep coming back to the idea that we have seen some of these things before, and it is because we have.  If you enjoy history or are looking for a way to empathize more with those you do not agree with, this episode is for you.  I dive through some of the similarities that you may not have thought of between COVID and the bubonic plague.  There is so much more that I could have discussed, so if you didn't hear something that you think is important, be sure to send me a tweet @lbtnpodcast or...

After a week off for the holiday and to get my first COVID vaccine, I am taking the time to reflect on the collective experiences of the COVID vaccination campaign both in the US and worldwide as well as some smaller samples of people I have discussed the topic with.  If you are on the fence about getting the vaccine, I encourage you to take a listen and see if any of the ideas presented here can be your call to action to go ahead and take the step of your first shot.  We are privileged here...

Episode 3: Competitive Edge

March 22, 2021 10:00 - 25 minutes - 17.8 MB

Episode 2: Mommy Wine Culture

March 20, 2021 02:00 - 31 minutes - 21.3 MB

Tweet your healthy habits @lbtnpodcast or send me an email to [email protected].  I want to share your alternatives to mommy wine culture and ponder the ways that it is harmful to our generation.

Episode 1.1 The real first episode

March 15, 2021 03:00 - 27 minutes - 19 MB

1 truly is the loneliest number and if that is all we are capable of focusing on while under duress, that is totally understandable.  But, if you do have the capacity, what if you were able to broaden that and get it back so that more than 1 person was checking in on you?  An episode about connection and how we show up in the world.  The 1 year mark of lockdowns from COVID and living life in a new way, that most of us hope is not a "new normal" at all.  Please be sure to send suggestions, qu...
