Few will be aware the Fred Banting's curiosity that, in part, lead to the Discovery of Insulin also was the beginning of his lifelong interest in Canada's Indigenous people. While growing up he and his family found mysterious hand- made stone tools on their farmland. Fred explored and dug for these items. He treasured these Indigenous findings by including them in his artwork and his fireplace.
