In this week's episode, I'm truly honoured to be chatting with Dr. Nicole Avena who is the author of her new book called "Sugarless".

Dr. Avena is a Princeton research neuroscientist and a pioneer in the field of food addiction, with over 16 million views of her TED-Ed video, "How Sugar Affects the Brain".

In this episode, we talk about Dr. Avena's own background in the 1980s with food and sugar. She explains what led her to study and research the effects of sugar on the brain and the body.

Yes, we both recognize that we have access to ALL the info about added sugars, but are things changing? Unfortunately, no.
Dr. Avena believes that in fact, things are getting worse. For example, why do we still reward children (and adults) with sugar? Why are ultra-processed, engineered food products so prevalent in our North American society?

Dr. Avena's book dives into how understanding your relationship with sugar is key.  She and I talk about practical ways to get UNstuck from the love-hate spiral many of us have with sugar. Dr. Avena also answers some questions that my listeners sent in for her.
