The amazing thing about our body is it’s a tremendous gauge
of pain and tolerance.  How much we can
endure or how much assistance we need to manage it.  To provide some context to our conversation here’s
a note from Statistics Canada on the matter. More than half (59.7%) of
Canadians aged 12 years and older rated their general health as very good or
excellent in 2021. While self-rated general health has remained relatively
stable since 2015, the proportion of people reporting very good or excellent
mental health decreased from 72.4% in 2015 to 59.0% in 2021.  Greg Stern is a Physiotherapist and “I am
the owner of From the Ground Up Physiotherapy. I help people get to the root
cause of their pain by teaching people to move their entire body in new ways to
wake up dormant muscles and movement patterns. Rather than solely focusing on
the site of pain, I teach the body to work as a whole to finally give the site
of pain a chance to recover as it now can work together with the body rather
than against it. With From the Ground Up, my chief mission is to help guide
people through their own path of self-discovery on their health journeys and
guide people to not only be pain-free, but to thrive in their everyday lives. I
help people see that injuries are not only a process of recovery, but
discovery; an opportunity to learn, be curious, to better understand your body,
to correct issues, improve efficiency and performance and tap into potential
you never knew you had!” “In 2013, at the age of 19, I sustained an
ankle injury that would forever change my life. What appeared to be a routine
ankle sprain developed into a chronic problem that caused me constant foot, hip
and back pain. For 5 years, I suffered from a constant buzzing discomfort that
affected me physically and mentally. It took me to some dark places not being
able to do the things I loved at such a young age when I used to be so active
and capable. At the time, I was aiming for medical school, but felt numb and couldn't
focus on anything but healing from the injury. So I decided to switch
directions altogether and got myself a Masters in Physical Therapy at McGill
University. I became OBSESSED with understanding how the body moves and have
spent thousands of hours and dollars experimenting and learning from the best
therapists and movement coaches from around the world. I chipped away slowly at
my problems every day, constantly experimenting, and incrementally making more
and more progress.”
