Worldwide, there are more than 300,000 babies born with neural tube defects each year. The total lifetime direct cost of care for a child born with spina bifida in the United States is estimated to be $791,900, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Furthermore, the National Library of Medicine reports Spina bifida is one of the most common types of neural tube defect, affecting an estimated 1 in 2,500 newborns worldwide. For unknown reasons, the prevalence of spina bifida varies among different geographic regions and ethnic groups.

Dom J. Ritter lives with Spina bifida however, he says “It's a total bitch, but I never allowed it to stop me from following my dreams. Make no mistake, though. It's really hard work, having to push yourself and facing your fears every single day. But it's totally worth it, that sense of achievement ("I totally had the balls to do this") and freedom to choose your very own path.

I want to inspire others who have experienced heavy losses & tragic setbacks, and help them out of this mess, and maybe along the way find new meaning and begin to live a life so much more awesome than before. Are you ready for the trip of your lifetime?” He joined me this week to tell me more.
