According to the US council on foreign relations there are approximately 1.3 million active-duty personnel, or less than one-half of 1 percent of the U.S. population. Furthermore, serving in our Armed Forces, requires a tremendous resolve and demonstration of mental toughness. What is being done to support our men and women in uniform once they return home?  Ron Rugg served in the Army across three deployments for 13 years before getting injured and medically retired. Since leaving the service, he has remained busy. He is currently finishing his master’s in physical education and Adaptive PE for special needs. He also works with the local VA in a few programs to better serve veteran’s recovery. Rugg hails from a small town farming community in Iowa, has experience as a small business owner in Virginia. He joined me this week to discuss, how to increase participation in our armed forces, his time in the service, how to better serve our veterans upon their return home and more.
