Thirty-six year veteran and Hall of Fame Jockey, Mike Smith, has been riding horses professionally since he was sixteen years-old but it was not until fifteen years ago that he started winning individual Triple Crown races. This past Sunday Justify became the thirteenth horse ever to capture the Triple Crown and Mike became the oldest jockey at fifty-two years of age to win the coveted award. Unlike some other sports where athletes decline with age, Mike Smith keeps defying father time. Here, we talk about Mike's beginnings in New Mexico, two crippling accidents that nearly derailed his career, his spartan regiment, and what keeps him going after all these years. Some might have spent some time relishing in the monumental moment. Mike left our interview to get on a flight to Kentucky for his next race.
