The Dallas Cowboys are signing Canadian offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley to their practice roster, according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji. The 27-year-old was waived by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday as part of the NFL’s cutdown day. He joined the team in September 2021 after he was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. He suited up for eight games with the Seahawks but did not see any offensive snaps. The UBC product made his NFL debut with the 49ers in 2020 after being called up from the practice squad in Week 14. He finished the season by dressing for the final three games with San Francisco. Shepley was a first-round pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2018 CFL Draft. He signed with the team in March 2019 following a stint with the New York Jets and started 14 games at right guard that season, winning the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie award. The native of Windsor, Ont. opted out of his CFL contract in August 2020 to pursue the NFL, signing a one-year deal with the 49ers. His contract with the Riders has since expired, which will allow him to sign with any team in the CFL should he choose to return north of the border. Shepley performed well at the 2018 CFL Combine with 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 5.15 hand-timed 40-yard dash, 4.72 shuttle, 8.01 three-cone, 31-inch vertical, and eight-foot, 9.5-inch broad jump. His combination of size and athleticism drew the attention of NFL scouts.
