LM1193 Genealogy Will Only Cause Trouble

LM, Episode 1193, 3/26/23, Genealogy Will Only Cause Trouble

A few years ago, my wife, Twyla, and I were spending a summer evening in bed watching a baseball game when a bat flies into our bedroom.  As it is circling with the ceiling fan, Twyla screams and jumps under the covers while I run out of the room, shutting the door behind me.

Twyla is screaming for me to open the door so she can get out and I’m explaining that we have the bat trapped and saying it’s not my fault she doesn’t have any leg speed.  Finally, she convinces me to open the door and she and the bat escape.

Recently Twyla has been researching the genealogy of both sides of our family.  I told her in the pre-internet days when my Uncle Calvin was researching Mom’s family, my Granddad Rowan told him, “That will only cause trouble.  What if you find we’re related to a horse thief?”

I told Calvin, “I think a horse thief is the best we can hope for.”

Last night Twyla is showing me all the famous people she’s related to including John Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Babe Ruth, and the first man to break the four minute mile, Roger Bannister.  I told her, “Too bad you got your leg speed from Babe Ruth and not Roger Bannister.”

Granddad Rowan was right.  Genealogy only causes trouble.

Have a great Sunday and always remember laughter matters.
