LM1186 Haircuts

LM, Episode 1186, 3/19/23,

I haven’t had a haircut for, maybe six months.  I’m starting to look like Doc Brown from the movie Back to The Future.  If our son, Keith, is listening, that’s the Johnny movie.

I am really missing my stylist from when we lived in Kansas City.  I have had a few episodes on Jamie in the past.  Not only is she one of the people on my List of 37 Friends, she is a great stylist.  I always looked forward to my monthly haircut with her because I knew she and her mom would make me laugh.

For about a year after moving to Cincinnati, I would go to my mom’s stylist once a month when I would visit Mom in Chicago, but she quit working on Fridays.  She suggested I go to Kensie, not MacKensie, simply Kensie.  I have absolutely nothing in common with young women, I can’t imagine how painful it would be to have to chat with someone named Kensie.

Twyla goes to a Sports Cut close to your house in Cincinnati.  I’ll be honest, I have never been in a Sports Cut, but I have looked in the window of a couple.  It would be worse than Kensie because not only would I have to talk with a young woman while getting my haircut, I’d have to talk sports with the young men while we wait.

I’ve tried convincing Jamie to travel to Cincinnati once a month for a haircut and some laughs, but she doesn’t think she can do that for the $20 I pay her.

This weekend, I broke down and got an appointment with one of the other stylists at Mom’s salon in Chicago.  As I’m walking out the door for the appointment, Mom says, “Don’t let her cut it too short, you look better with longer hair.”

“Really, Mom.  Fifty years ago you sent me back to the Crowley barbershop because you thought my hair was still too long.”

She says, “I didn’t want you to become a pot smoking, hippie.”

“I don’t think the length of my hair determined that.”

Thank you for listening and always remember laughter matters.
